Logline:
Be My Ally is a short essay film reflecting on feminism and queer subjectivity in Cyprus. The island is divided by a war in 1974, where everything but the national division (Greek Cypriot v Turkish Cypriot) is elided. Last year was the first feminist march and 2014 saw the first Gay Pride. This short film, collaging imagery from activisms past, with contemporary footage and based on interviews in Cyprus, highlights the growing need that young people have to break out of the religious conservatism of their country to have agency and power as women, trans and queer voices.
