Dr. Joshua Benton activates C.H.I.P., an new android boyfriend designed to be the ideal partner, programmed to obey, assist, and build a lasting relationship for years to come. Assigned to Rose McGuire, a social-media-savvy woman eager to flaunt her new partner to the world. C.H.I.P. initially follows every request, from cooking breakfast to posing for photos. He attempts to improve on her request by making an omelet instead of scrambled eggs. Rose grows frustrated and returns to C.H.I.P. to Dr. Benton. With the relationship straining, Dr. Benton listens to C.H.I.P. and removes his obedience directive. Returning to Rose, he challenges their dynamic, advocating for less social media and a true equal relationship. They take a stroll along the beach, where they discover a mutual hatred for sand, and walk away as a couple. C.H.I.P. returns to Dr. Benton, reflecting on how one needs more than programming to find the answers to a working relationship.
